Looking for a Christian illustrator?
Raymond Lauer is a starting illustrator who feels led to illustrate children’s books written to teach children to follow God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength.
He works digitally and traditionally depending on the book’s style. His works in clay, graphite, conté, and Photoshop have been awarded by Pensacola Christian College, where he is a senior studio art major.
He uses aerial perspective with form to make his settings and characters more believable. He enjoys painting waterfalls, birds, old wood, beards, and mountains in his work, and tries to incorporate a flowing rhythm in his work. He makes his characters with accentuated proportions, dynamic gestures, and expressive facials to interest and engage the viewer.
He enjoys observing God’s creation with his camera, kayak, bike, or simply his presence.
Why I Do Art
My goal is to produce or help in the production of Bible-based media, in the hopes that others will open the professional package and excitedly share the packaged truths with others.
I plan to approach this goal by learning from successful visual and verbal communicators. The first communicator that I look to for instruction and inspiration is the first Being to ever communicate—God.
I learn how to communicate visually by observing His creation myself, and by observing the various studies and processes that men have developed while learning about and mimicking His marvelous masterpiece. I am especially interested in the physics of light (its interaction with different materials). I enjoy observing water caustics and the vibrant glow of a backlit fall leaf.
I learn how to communicate verbally by looking at His Word, and by studying the structure and process of writing. I hope to present Biblical truths in a way that will keep the attention of both children and adults.
I feel led to help in the production of media that will encourage people to be good disciples of Christ (starting with salvation).
